Kitco News discusses strikes, production cuts as well as full year results in the mining industry. We look into mining companies Codelco, Newcrest Mining Limited, Centamin PLC and Excellon Resources Inc. In Chile, Codelco, the world's leading copper producer, has had issues with copper exports as strikes block the country's main ports. Codelco's Radomiro Tomic mine temporarily suspended operations due to a worker's recent death onsite. Newcrest, Australia's largest gold miner, has trimmed its gold production expectations due to damages at its Papua New Guinea mine. The mine is expected to operate at reduced capacity for the next 5-7 weeks. Centamin released strong production results in 2012 reporting 263,000 ounces of gold for the year. The company still faces issues with the Egyptian government regarding its Sukari mine but is now focusing on getting exploration licenses in Ethiopia. Excellon is well positioned despite its La Platosa mine being shut down for about 3 months due to a mine blockade. Kitco News, April 1, 2013.
